Reducing Your Risk of Bladder Cancer

A risk factor is something that makes your chances of getting cancer higher. Some can't be changed such as your gender or genes, but many can be.

Quit Smoking

There are many harmful toxins in tobacco. They are filtered through the body. Many are passed in urine. This, in turn means the lining of the bladder is exposed to them.

Quitting smoking is the biggest step in lowering your chances of bladder and other cancers. The sooner smoking is stopped, the sooner the body can start to heal. Talk to your doctor about the best ways for you to quit.

Control Exposures at Work

Many people work in jobs that expose them to harmful chemicals. Try to find work that's safer if you can. If not, take steps to protect yourself from harm. Check with the https://www.osha.gov or the https://www.epa.gov for help.

Stay Hydrated    TOP

If you don’t drink enough water, it lowers the amount in the urine. This also means higher amounts of harmful substances in the urine. Drink plenty of water during the day to help flush out the bladder.

Eat a Healthful Diet    TOP

Eating a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables is linked to lower chances of cancer. It helps keep the immune system in shape and helps you keep at a healthy weight.
