Screening for Eating Disorders
Condition InDepth
Screening is done to find a problem and treat it early. Tests are given to people who do not have symptoms but who may be at high risk.
Screening Guidelines
There are no screening guidelines for eating disorders. But, the doctor may give a questionnaire during an exam.
Sample questions may include:
- Are you terrified about being overweight?
- Have you gone on eating binges where you feel you cannot stop?
- Do you feel extremely guilty after eating?
- Do you ever make yourself vomit after meals?
- Do you feel that food controls your life?
The person may be referred for treatment, depending on how they answer.
